Do you thrive in complex environments where people are passionate about achieving big things together and making a difference across the state?

About the Department
The Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning is working to shape Queensland’s future by driving economic growth and enabling well-planned, inclusive and resilient local communities. Its purpose is ‘To think ahead and act now to secure responsible economic development, safe workplaces and liveable communities’.

This Department is uniquely placed to enable you to work on projects as far-reaching and varied as housing and liveability, the infrastructure needed for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and renewables.

About the Role and You
Queensland is on the cusp of major regulatory and planning reforms. With ambitious priorities, including housing supply expansion, energy infrastructure, and streamlined policy frameworks, this role places you at the forefront of transformative change.

As a State Shaper, you’ll be part of a passionate team working on projects that impact millions of Queenslanders. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead a team that is primed for growth, transitioning to innovative planning solutions.
  • Influence legislative changes that will drive Queensland’s future in housing, infrastructure, and renewables.
  • Work alongside key government stakeholders and private sector partners to deliver real impact.
  • Be the architect of a high-functioning, well-resourced team positioned to drive policy change.

Reporting to the State Planner, the Executive Director, Policy & Statutory Planning (PSP) will be responsible for:

  • Leading and modernising a team responsible for Queensland’s planning framework, overseeing key regulatory and legislative improvements.
  • Providing strategic leadership and technical direction in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
  • Navigating complex policy challenges, ensuring agile and responsive legislative outcomes.
  • Collaborating with local government, industry leaders, and internal departments to shape innovative land use and development policies.
  • Driving accountability, strategic governance, and proactive risk management to safeguard the state’s interests.

We’re looking for a dynamic and results-driven leader, with:

  • Extensive experience in government planning frameworks, statutory policy, and regulatory reform.
  • Strong networks across government, private sector, and local stakeholders.
  • A proactive, deadline-driven approach.
  • A background in planning, regulatory policy, or infrastructure (Queensland knowledge is advantageous but not essential).
  • The ability to modernise processes and inspire high performance within a growing team.

The Department values differences and the diversity of thought and experiences all people bring. We encourage applicants of all genders, ethnicities, ages, languages, sexual orientations, disabilities, and family responsibilities to apply.
