Uraidla Hotel is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Wine Manager to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for curating an exceptional wine list, providing expert wine recommendations, and ensuring a top-tier wine experience for our guests. You will also work closely with the Venue Manager and Company Director to ensure that wine service is seamlessly integrated into the hotel's overall operations. Your expertise will play a crucial role in elevating the dining experience, supporting staff, and contributing to the hotel's reputation as a premier destination.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Curate and manage an extensive wine list, ensuring it complements the menu and enhances the guest dining experience.
  • Offer expert wine recommendations, pairings, and tastings to guests, creating memorable and educational experiences.
  • Supervise service in the restaurant, ensuring excellent presentation and service standards.
  • Train and mentor bar and restaurant staff on wine knowledge, service techniques, and upselling strategies.
  • Manage wine inventory, ordering, and stock rotation to maintain optimal levels and quality.
  • Maintain relationships with wine suppliers, negotiating pricing and managing delivery schedules.
  • Oversee the proper storage of wine to ensure the best conditions for aging and preservation.
  • Provide input on menu development with regard to wine pairings, ensuring alignment with food offerings.
  • Monitor and manage wine-related financials, including sales, costs, and profitability.
  • Ensure all wine-related procedures comply with local liquor laws and safety standards.

Business Management:

  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly wine sales, identifying trends and opportunities for growth in wine offerings.
  • Coordinate regular stocktakes, managing inventory control to minimise wine waste, optimise stock usage, and maintain profitability.

Training and Development:

  • Develop and deliver ongoing wine education programs for bar, restaurant, and café staff to enhance product knowledge and service techniques.
  • Collaborate with management to identify wine-related skill gaps and offer targeted development opportunities to team members.
  • Organise cross-training sessions to ensure staff are well-versed in wine knowledge, service styles, and pairings, improving team versatility.
  • Evaluate team and individual performance regarding wine service, providing constructive feedback and implementing strategies for continuous improvement.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Restaurant or Wine Manager in a high-end hospitality setting.
  • A strong passion for wines and wine service, and the ability to share that passion with guests and staff.
  • In-depth knowledge of wines from various regions, varietals, and production methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with guests.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in inventory and stock management.
  • Experience in training and developing staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a calm and professional demeanour.
  • Wine certifications (e.g., WSET or accredited Sommelier qualification) preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Proficiency in H&L POS system.
