General Manager Operations & Operational Safety

Public Safety Training & Response Group is an independent, Australian veteran owned company helping people and organisations deal with an extensive range of emergency situations and delivering industry relevant and nationally accredited public safety training and response certifications. We save lives early with a highly resourced and respected team of responders and educators who provide specialised solutions to avert or mitigate crisis.

The main responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

Operations Management

  • Develop and implement operational strategies, policies, and procedures to drive productivity and performance.
  • Oversee operations, including emergency response and rescue services, and quality control.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess operational efficiency and identify areas for improvement.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Provide strong leadership and direction to the operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop high-performing operational talent.

Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with the executive team to develop and execute the company's overall strategic plan.
  • Align operational initiatives with the organisation's mission, vision, and values.
  • Work closely with the CEO to develop and manage the operational budget, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining quality and service levels.
  • Monitor and control expenses to meet budgets.

Process Improvement, Quality and Optimization

  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and efficiencies, implementing best practices to support operations.
  • Implement performance metrics and reporting systems to track progress and drive improvements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QHSE Management System.

Risk Management and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and legal requirements.
  • Develop and maintain effective risk management strategies to mitigate operational and financial risks.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other executives and departments (e.g., One Response, SMH, RPAS & UAV & Security) to align operations with overall business objectives.
  • Foster effective communication and teamwork across the organisation.

Technology and Innovation

  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and competitiveness.
  • Evaluate and implement technology solutions to enhance operational efficiency.

Customer Focus

  • Champion a customer-centric approach to operations, ensuring products and services meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Gather and analyze customer feedback to drive improvements.

Security Clearances:

  • Be able to maintain or obtain specific security clearances (if required), obtain police check and potentially working with children (Blue Card).

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in either Military or Emergency services, within Australia, or from overseas.
  • Minimum of 10 years proven senior management experience with the demonstrated ability to improve business results across all key metrics/KPIs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with the demonstrated ability to develop and manage a high performing team and manage both internal and external stakeholder relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • Experience in overseeing large project management teams and sub-contractor teams whilst still delivering and cultivating and developing a pipeline of new work contracts/commercial management delivery.
  • Operational Management and service supply background – for projects from inception to delivery.
  • Previous experience working within an ISO accredited organisation with a demonstrable understanding of the associated industry specific regulations (CASA) and related compliance requirements.
  • Sound computer literacy, especially regarding spreadsheets and financial reporting.
