Position Title: Project Delivery Manager

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Location: Hobart or Launceston, Tasmania

Employment Status: Full-time ongoing

About Us

Stadiums Tasmania is a statutory authority established by the Tasmanian Government under the provisions contained in the Stadiums Tasmania Act 2022 (the Act) to centralise the ownership, management, and capital development of Tasmania’s major public stadiums, and fulfil a role in attracting and hosting national and international events whilst still being accessible to the wider Tasmanian community. Our vision is to make Tasmania a leading destination for world-class events and to enhance the social, cultural, and economic wellbeing of Tasmanians.

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an energetic and highly motivated Project Delivery Manager to lead the successful planning and execution of major redevelopment projects of Stadiums Tasmania’s venues. Initially, the projects include the $130M redevelopment of UTAS Stadium and the redevelopment of the Silverdome. As the role evolves, it is expected that the Project Delivery Manager will lead a cross-section of implementation projects which could include systems-based innovation – such as IT hardware/software implementation. The Project Delivery Manager will be responsible for ensuring a high-quality and safe delivery of high-profile projects from inception to completion. The Project Delivery Manager is required to manage budgets, project resources, project governance and risk management and ensure that all project milestones are met. You will need to be adept at managing multidisciplinary teams of consultants and be able to translate technical project information into communicable advice for senior leaders. If you think you are a good fit for this role, you will need to be experienced at building and maintaining relationships and meeting the needs of a diverse stakeholder group, balancing multiple projects simultaneously while focusing on effective communication.

Major Duties

  1. Lead and manage project teams consistent with Stadiums Tasmania’s values, providing direction and support to ensure project goals are achieved.
  2. Develop and implement project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  3. Coordinate schedules and activities among various stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
  4. Monitor project progress and performance, adjusting as necessary to stay on track.
  5. Manage inventory and resources effectively to minimise waste and optimise productivity.
  6. Communicate regularly with suppliers and stakeholders to provide updates and address any concerns.
  7. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations throughout all project phases.
  8. Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address potential project challenges.
  9. Prepare detailed reports and presentations on project status for the Stadiums Tasmania Board, senior management, steering committees, working groups, and stakeholders.
  10. Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with Stadiums Tasmania policies and procedures and support the development of necessary resources and training to enable compliance.
  11. A willingness to travel within Tasmania (and interstate) when necessary.

Key Success Factors

The role will require someone who is both strategic and hands-on, with the ability to handle multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines at once. You will be a great communicator and be proactive in identifying project risks and improvement opportunities. In addition to demonstrating relevant experiences across the core functional areas of responsibility identified above, the successful candidates will require the below:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in project management within the construction industry of projects of $100M or more focusing on infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship building skills with demonstrated ability to partner with other leaders or organisations to achieve delivery-focused outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly, oral, written, presentation, and influencing skills in a variety of internal and external business and community environments.

  • Understanding and exposure to various building contract types and experience negotiating contracts of significant value.
  • Action-orientated, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning and execution.
  • Ability to set priorities, plan work programs, meet deadlines, and manage time effectively.
  • Risk management expertise.
  • Highly organised, with a focus on detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A commitment to upholding safety and quality standards.
  • High level of personal and professional integrity.
  • High energy, enthusiasm, and drive, inspiring others to achieve.
  • Knowledge of Tasmanian industry-specific regulations and standards.
  • Willingness to hold project resources to account and to have difficult discussions with contractors where necessary.
