Assist the Chief of Section in the regular the management, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of the Section's Global Firearms Programme activities and projects.
Assist in the development of a UNODC Illicit Firearms Strategy and related consultation processes, and contribute to the drafting of related policy and strategic documents.
Assist in the planning and organization of fundraising and consultative missions and events with partners and national stakeholders; keeps the Section's project portfolio updated; supports preparation of project proposals and other fundraising material; develops and maintains donor's profiles and a database of contact details.
Coordinate the timely submission and updating of project workplans and the regular monitoring, recording and measuring of progress in project implementation against established baselines and targets; support the section in the daily task related with project management, including updating monitoring tools, events tracking and gender breakdowns.
Support the Section in fulfilling its reporting obligations, by keeping track of and coordinating with project managers the timely and qualitative submission of periodic project progress reports, and other donors reports, as well as other reporting requirements, as well as supporting the drafting, coordination and consolidation of relevant inputs from the other members of the section.
Conducts substantive research on specific issues related to illicit firearms trafficking and related crimes, gender and other cross cutting issues, to support the knowledge management and strategic research work of the Section, such as the development of specialised issue papers and studies, development of tools etc.
Contribute to the gender and Human Rights mainstreaming work of the Section, in cooperation with designated staff.
Support the organization of briefing sessions with Member States and donors and other visibility events, including, implementation of project activities and events, as required.

Background of the assignment:
In 2011, UNODC launched the Global Firearms Programme to assist Member States in preventing and countering transnational illicit trafficking in firearms through the ratification and implementation of the Protocol against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Their Parts and Components and Ammunition (FP), supplementing the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC).
The Programme develops around different complementary clusters, which include advocacy and awareness raising; legislative and policy development; technical assistance and capacity building; technical support in firearms control; international cooperation; and research and analysis.
As part of this integrated approach, the Global Firearms Programme is developing a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening the criminal justice response to the problem of illicit firearms trafficking and their illicit access in particular by organized crime and terrorist groups.

Purpose of the assignment:
The purpose of the assignment is to:
i) To support the overall implementation of the project, as well as support on the outreach products and support the Programme Officers in its tasks related to the project management, reporting and monitoring and evaluation.
Qualifications/special skills
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
A first level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Law, Political Sciences and/or Social Sciences or related field is desirable.
A minimum of one year of relevant working experience in the field of international relations, legal affairs, including international and criminal law and/or Human Rights is required.
Experience working in an international environment is required.Experience in supporting the implementation of technical assistance projects is desirable.
Work experience in the field of security, organized crime, firearms trafficking and related matters is desirable.
Languages
