At the Department of Systematic Theology and Study of Religions of the Protestant Faculty, a position of a University assistant (prae doc) is vacant.


Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.


The Chair of Studies of Religion at the Faculty of Protestant Theology of the University of Vienna has distinguished itself internationally with a focus on Islam, Oriental Christianity and contemporary and societal issues as well as on the status of religious minorities in the Islamic context.

Before the retirement of Professor Wolfram Reiss on Oct. 1st, 2024, the innovative aspects of this Department are to be highlighted once again. This will be documented with a book publication and a symposium. For this purpose, a prae-doctoral position is vacant as early as possible until September 30, 2024.

You will have the opportunity to prepare your own academic work with the goal of earning a doctorate in Studies of Religion or related fields.


Profile:

The position holder should have the following qualifications:1. a domestic or equivalent foreign university degree (Master, diploma) appropriate to the position,

2. willingness to edit a book publication and to participate in the preparation of a symposium that is thematically relevant to the chair,

3. outstanding scholarly aptitude, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, in the areas of Oriental Christianity, Christian-Muslim relations, or Applied Religious Studies,

4. involvement in the international scientific community and international visibility,

5.

interdisciplinary ability:
Studies of Religions, Oriental studies, Sociology, Anthropology,

6. experience with Third-party Project proposals,

  • Native knowledge of German as well as English C1 level absolutely necessary because of editorial work.
Knowledge of Arabic would be advantageous
