Postdoc for Bioinformatics

at the Joint Microbiome Facility

of the University of Vienna and Medical University of Vienna

Reference number: 10818/22

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.


The successfui applicant will also communicate with other bioinformaticians and Facility users and collaborators to manage data curation and analysis for diverse projects, and be involved in the publication of results in international peer-reviewed journals.

Profile:

  • Statistical analysis and data visualization in R
  • One or more highlevel scripting/programming languages (e.g. Perl, Python, C++, etc.)
  • Experience using a computational cluster including job scheduling (e.g. Torque, Slurm, etc.) and maintaining environmental modules
  • Experience working with public data repositories including NCBI, ENA and DOE-IMG. The ability to interface through APIs is preferred
  • Experience using phylogenetic methods
  • Experience writing scripts to process and analyze date produced from massivelyparallel sequencing including amplicon, shotgun metagenomics and metatranscriptomic datasets
  • Experience preparing scientific manuscripts and presenting scientific results at international scientific conferences
A strong background in microbiology and medical microbiome research is preferred.

Good communications skills in English (written and spoken) are mandatory and communication skills in German are preferred. The ability to work in a team is essential.
