We are seeking individuals with expertise in the design and development of medical devices for the role of Medical Device R&D Engineer. Your Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop medtech concepts for treating mental health and brain disorders
  • Engage with key stakeholders and experts to identify user requirements
  • Establish product requirements to achieve innovation objectives
  • Transform technology ideas into prototypes for feasibility testing
  • Plan, perform, and document verification and validation tests for device concepts
  • Develop and maintain the design history file for new products
  • Ensure design control during development in compliance with regulations
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and senior management for decision-making and progress tracking
  • Support R&D tasks and contribute across clinical, product, and regulatory domains
  • Work independently, managing time efficiently to complete tasks autonomously

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in engineering or a related field (e.g., biomedical, mechanical, electrical/electronic)
  • 2+ years of experience in medical device research and development within a medical device company or startup
  • Expertise in design verification and validation testing of medical device prototypes following current regulatory standards
  • Technical writing skills and experience with design control processes for medical device development
  • Knowledge of medical device regulations and standards (e.g. ISO13485, FDA21CFR part 820, ISO14971)
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Willingness to relocate to Vienna, Austria for the duration of employment
  • EU citizenship or existing Austrian red-white-red work permit

Desirable Attributes:

  • Proven track record in product design, development, and validation testing for devices related to EEG, wearable technology, neuromodulation, neurostimulation, or neurofeedback
  • Successful involvement in taking a medical device product from concept to market launch
  • Experience with standards for human factors and usability engineering in medical devices (IEC 62366)
  • Familiarity with intellectual property and previous experience in patent filing
  • Strong grasp of neurotechnology in healthcare and interest in upcoming trends in the field
  • Understanding of electrical safety standards for electrical device development (IEC 60601)
  • Proficiency in product design and 3D CAD software like SolidWorks, CREO, Fusion 360, or similar
  • Experience with design transfer processes and sound knowledge of design for manufacturing
  • Knowledge of biocompatible materials selection for medical devices
