The Internship position is located in the News and Media Unit, United Nations Information Service UNIS, Vienna (Austria).

The position is for three months starting in September 2023 with an opportunity for extension up to six months pending on the needs of the office and the availability of the intern.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the direct supervision of Professional staff of the Unit.

Responsibilities:

The Intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Analysis of German language media coverage of various UN topics;
  • Compilation of press reviews of Austrian media;
  • Drafting content for social media platforms (Twitter and Facebook) and the UNIS website;
  • Drafting, editing and translating a wide range of media texts, including press releases, opinion pieces, online articles in German and English;
  • Assisting in the full production cycle of videos, photos as well as audio to promote specific UN topics and the work of the organization
  • Assisting in the preparation, implementation and followup of press briefings, outreach, awarenessraising events and highlevel visits/ conferences;
  • Assisting the News & Media team through research on specific topics and themes;
  • Performing other tasks as necessary.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined above)
(OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION);

  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this Internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in oral and written German is highly desirable. Knowledge of a UNIS client country language (Hungarian, Slovak, Slovene) is an additional asset.
