Details: As an Ecologist (PO2) in the Office of Nature Conservation or Parks and Conservation Service, you will work under the supervision of a Senior Ecologist/Assistant Director to deliver an innovative program of ecological research, monitoring, and advice provision to empower adaptive management across the Environment, Heritage and Water Division.
The key responsibilities of this position will be to:
- Design, coordinate and implement ecological research and monitoring programs, including data collection, spatialisation, review and analysis.
- Use ecological data to address questions of management significance and evaluate outcomes against key objectives.
- Ensure projects are developed in collaboration with the community and end-users, and are well-coordinated with other government teams working in related areas.
- Assist in the provision of technical information and advice on the protection and appropriate management of resilient ecosystems to a range of government and non-government stakeholders.
- Liaise and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in the management, supervision and mentorship of junior staff and volunteers.
- Develop high quality scientific and/or technical reports and papers, to support evidence-based decision making, often in collaboration with internal or external stakeholders, including university research partners.
- Represent the Branch, Division, Directorate and/or ACT Government in local and regional forums as relevant to the role.
- Undertake delegated responsibilities as a Conservation Officer pursuant to the Nature Conservation Act 2014.
- Work within an Activity Based Working Environment.
- Maintaining records in accordance with the Territory Records Act 2002.
- Understand and work within the ACTPS Code of Conduct and ACTPS values of respect, integrity, collaboration and innovation, and model behaviours consistent with the ACTPS Respect Equity and Diversity Framework.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in ecology, environmental science, natural resource management or similar field.
- A willingness to work independently in the field, outside normal hours in remote locations and in adverse weather conditions.
- Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
- Working With Vulnerable People Card (or willingness to obtain one).
Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately for up to two years. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
