Equis, founded in 2010, is a leading renewable energy developer and operator with a successful track record of developing over 200 renewable energy projects across South-East Asia. In 2019, Equis pivoted to focus solely on developed markets in Asia-Pacific countries (currently Australia, Japan and South Korea) to develop projects in renewable energy, biomass and waste recovery sectors. Equis currently employs over 150 investment, engineering, procurement, construction and operational professionals across its Asia Pacific offices in Australia, Seoul, Singapore, and Tokyo. 

Equis continues to rapidly grow its platform and is hiring high-calibre professionals to join its team which is predominantly based in Melbourne, with offices in Sydney and Brisbane. Equis Australia is a fast paced and driven team, working across projects in Australia East coast, South Australia and Tasmania. 

Job Role

Support the development, design, construction, commissioning and operation of renewable energy assets including solar, battery, hydrogen, wind and biomass / waste to energy .

Role and Responsibilities

  • Shadow the Grid Connection Manager (GCM) with technical, commercial and contractual matters (including external consultants) to support new and existing grid connections, particularly for Wind.
  • Support technical workstreams for new grid connections, in relation to the management of specilaised consultants.
  • Support Wind, BESS and solar design activities, particularly in the early development of Equis assets. 
  • Support the preparation of project documentation and approval papers with inputs relating to grid connection and technical designs. 
  • Support the negotiation of network access and connection agreements to secure arrangements on favorable terms.
  • Support GCM with network modelling work (external) required to obtain grid connection.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety and risk management. 
  • Support the management of the technical and commercial activities associated with high-voltage transmission systems (e.g. with investment team, legal and finance teams), by providing advice on effective management of interfaces and working collaboratively with both internal and external parties.
  • Support the development of the broader Equis team through knowledge sharing of grid connection and HV designs appropriate to the relevant team/audience including the development, delivery, operations teams and the broader engineering function across the business.
  • Provide guidance and support as required in the identification, evaluation and management of risks affecting the connection and design aspects of development, delivery and any generation assets.
  • Undertake preliminary assessment of capacity and system strength constraints, support technical design development, provide technical inputs required to support commercial arrangements including connection costs and schedule.
  • Proactively manage counterparties including AEMO, TNSPs, DNSPs and regulators as required.
  • Coordinate with project team to manage interfaces between connection and generation design and construction. 
  • Support the closure of connection and access agreements in expected timeframes, support grid registration (as required), coordinate R2 acceptance and close out.
  • Partake in site activities for the commissioning and energization of Equis assets. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with transmission and distribution network service providers, regulators, the wholesale market operator, investors, other developers and specialist consultants.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in the specification, design, construction and operation of generation, transmission and distribution assets, particularly at wind generation facilities. 
  • Understanding of renewable energy project grid integration principles and requirements. 
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the National Electricity Market including drivers and risks.
  • Knowledge of the National Electricity Rules, connection requirements and the rights and obligations of connecting generators.
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience in relevant roles including wind farms. 
  • Technology experience with wind turbines (BESS and solar also relevant). 
  • Previous experience in roles with a developer, asset owner, utility, contractor, major equipment supplier or engineering consultant in wind and similar projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical colleagues, other engineers, NSPs, regulators, contractors and stakeholders.
