About us

Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system.

The organisation will drive delivery of world-class pumped hydro assets to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland’s clean energy future. The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets of 70% renewables by 2032, 80% by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.

Purpose

The purpose of the First Nations Engagement Specialist is to engage with First Nations communities and facilitate meaningful consultation and collaboration to respect and preserve cultural heritage values while supporting the organizations projects.

About the role

This role supports the Native Title and Cultural Heritage Manager in providing expertise and support in cultural heritage management, to internal stakeholders and wider external stakeholders.

The key accountabilities are to:

  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with First Nations people and First Nations coordinating bodies to facilitate effective Aboriginal Heritage management outcomes and Native Title obligations.
  • Support community engagement and stakeholder liaison, particularly with First Nations peoples and First Nations coordinating bodies, including the provision of information at meetings or events.
  • Support internal stakeholders to ensure consistent approach to First Nations relationships.
  • Drive local partnerships with First Nations Stakeholders ensuring quality engagement with the project. 
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to this position.
  • Carry out other duties as deemed reasonable and appropriate to the role as directed from time to time.

About you

  • Formal qualifications in relevant discipline with a minimum of 5 years' experience in Indigenous engagement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local Aboriginal history, traditions, organisations, and network.
  • Strong understanding of Australian First Nations history, protocols and significant people and events.
  • Prior experience of working respectfully with First Nations organisations.
  • Ability to liaise with all levels of the business, community, government stakeholders and technical specialists and tailor communication outputs to suit the relevant stakeholder.
  • Strong reporting, presentation and briefing capability.
