Executive Director, Hydrogen

Queensland Government has committed to setting a new emissions reduction target of 75% by 2035. The Government has introduced legislation to lock in its emissions reduction targets, including the existing targets of 30% reduction below 2005 levels by 2030 and zero net emissions by 2050.
The new 2035 emissions target strengthens the work set out in the Queensland Climate Action Plan and Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan, which maps Queensland’s pathway to net zero by 2050. Queensland Government will work with industry, the community and other levels of government to deliver on this pathway in a way that grows jobs and economic growth, enhances Queensland’s exports and protects our lifestyle. Hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel, renewable and bio-diesel, e-fuels, bio-fuels and other low emissions fuels all have a role to play in achieving Queensland’s decarbonisation objectives.
As the Executive Director, Hydrogen & Future Fuels, you will lead a specialised group of staff responsible for harnessing the economic development and decarbonisation opportunities flowing Queensland's hydrogen and future fuels industry and their contribution to Queensland's emissions reduction targets.
Your leadership in developing and executing strategic policy, industry development and emerging technologies will lay the foundation for sustainable investment in the hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel, and low emissions fuel sectors. You will provide direction to navigate through ambiguity and leverage cross-government and industry relationships to ensure the Hydrogen & Future Fuels Division is at the forefront of this rapidly evolving industry.
As the Executive Director, Hydrogen & Future Fuels, you will be responsible for:
- Providing high quality strategic advice and analysis, information and guidance to the Deputy Director-General, Director-General and Minister in relation to policy, regulation within the hydrogen & future fuels sector.
- Establishing and maintain effective working relationships with the senior executive and key staff in government agencies and collaborating with stakeholders to engage and encourage hydrogen use and other new energy sources.
- Creating an environment oriented to trust, open communication, collaboration and cohesive inclusion across your peer and team network.
- Leading a team to deliver policies, strategies and capabilities to build a long term and sustainable hydrogen & future fuels industry for Queensland.
- Providing guidance to technical staff to ensure the Division stays abreast of emerging technical issues for the hydrogen & future fuels industries including commercial settings, resource requirements (e.g. renewable energy, water, biofeedstocks) in order to inform strategic planning.
- Leading the development and implementation of strategies, programs and initiatives to generate the long-term productivity growth and sustainability of Queensland's hydrogen & future fuels sectors.
- Representing the Government, Department and Deputy Director-General in a range of forums that ensures that the interests of the department and hydrogen & future fuels sectors are represented.
- Leading the delivery of advice to support the Minister's responsibilities and government priorities.
