About Australian Veterinary Association (AVA)
The AVA is the peak professional organisation representing veterinary professionals and veterinary students across Australia. The AVA has been providing a united voice for the veterinary profession for over 100 years. AVA’s Special Interest Groups (SIG) are categories of membership within the AVA that are aligned to a species (Small Animal, Cattle, Equine, Pigs, Poultry, etc.) or veterinary science activity (Behaviour, Dentistry, Welfare and Ethic, etc.).
About the opportunity
The role of National Manager, Special Interest Groups (SIG) is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure SIG membership growth.
The role is also responsible for supporting AVA members and their SIG Committees through their own SIG portfolio. Drive and contribute to membership growth, retention and engagement, advocacy, and continuing professional development for their SIG and the wider SIG team through development and implementation of initiatives to meet strategic objectives of the AVA.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage and lead the SIG team including both SIG Executive and Administrative Officers
- Provide support and advice for SIG Executive and Administrative Officers on implementation of the strategic and business priorities of the AVA.
- Develop and oversee a consistent and collaborative work environment to support the SIG team and other relevant staff.
- Oversee the development and implementation of annual SIG membership plans
- Develop and lead a strategy of member engagement through social, educational and SIG membership benefits to increase SIG membership.
- Work with Membership Services to ensure alignment between SIG initiatives and other AVA offerings.
- Assist in the development of advocacy plans and submissions though maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and member subject matter expertise.
- Liaise with other staff to ensure that positions presented to government, media and the public accurately reflect AVA policy and key messages.
- Assist SIG team in development of annual membership plans and budgets that align with the AVA strategic and business plans.
- Oversee financial operations for SIGs in accordance with the approved AVA budget and objectives.
- Anticipate and advise AVA management of any factors or issues that may impact financial performance and/or viability.
- Establish consistent efficient governance processes for SIG committees.
- Prepare and present SIG activity Board reports.
- Ensure the SIG team complies with AVA policies and procedures.
- Responsible for and manage key SIG stakeholders.
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in business, management, marketing, veterinary science or a related field
- At least 5 years’ experience in a senior leadership role
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
- Previous experience in planning and implementing member/customer marketing strategies
- Demonstrated ability to build, manage and achieve budgets
- Ability to effectively engage with the many stakeholders including members and industry
- Experienced in, and capable of, providing a high level of executive support to SIG Committees and Executive Leadership Team.
- Demonstrated ability to influence Committee and Groups
- Good financial and commercial acumen.
- Previous experience in the veterinary field is preferred but not required
