The Opportunity

The Transport Strategy and Planning Division develops policies and legal instruments; and establishes strategic plans, standards and program management frameworks for network development to deliver customer, community and economic benefits and outcomes.

As the Manager of Road Network Planning, you will provide leadership in the provision of technical and specialist input into multi-modal transport strategies. Your role will oversee feasibility analysis and studies of potential future transport asset improvements, ensuring that studies and outputs are sound and robust, integrating effectively with Departmental and government priorities and initiatives.

As a key member of the Directorate leadership group, you will have managerial responsibility for a professional team, including resource allocation, staff development, performance management, and leadership.

You will represent the Department at various industry forums, lead stakeholder engagement, and ensure outputs are focused on stakeholder and customer needs.

The role will ensure a strong emphasis on and integration of safety in road network planning and programs, as well as providing relevant advice and managing funding agreements with external asset owners for projects funded through the agency. Your contributions will be key in the continuous improvement of the directorate through business planning and leadership of initiatives.

About You

We are seeking a candidate with extensive experience and demonstrated success in driving outcomes and delivering timely and well-positioned outputs. The successful candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of strategic issues and opportunities impacting transport systems, along with the ability to successfully engage with stakeholders and influence decisions to achieve win-win outcomes.

They will demonstrate extensive experience in communicating effectively and influencing and negotiating outcomes that are technically and politically sound, as well as the ability to think innovatively and strategically to deliver well-positioned advice and plans.

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive and contemporary knowledge of the issues, risks, trends, and directions of the transport system, along with extensive experience in the leadership, management, and development of teams. They will have demonstrated experience in driving change and reforms to ensure outputs are leading-edge and will possess the ability to work collaboratively across diverse disciplines and actively engage and understand the needs of internal, external, and community interests.

Qualifications/Experience

Comprehensive knowledge of strategic issues and opportunities impacting on transport systems is essential.

We are open to hear from you on how you will apply your expertise to the role and appointment may be to the MAS3 or PO5 classification level, noting the following is also provided:

MAS3 - A relevant tertiary qualification in economics, finance, commerce, business, management, or a related field will be highly regarded.

PO5 - To be eligible for appointment at this classification, a degree level qualification in Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline or a recognised degree or recognised post graduate qualification in the discipline of Planning is required.

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate professional engineering or planning expertise, competence, and experience directly related and applicable to road network planning and as to enable them to be providing professional advice and services in circumstances requiring complex technical skills.

Special Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to provide a National Police Check (NPC) prior to employment with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.

Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.
