The role

This is a key leadership role that provides technical expertise across the entire SDLC for Java development. It is responsible for providing technical direction and oversight to ensure strict compliance with the company’s architectural vision and technology strategy across the backend development domain.

  • Design innovative and fit-for-purpose solutions that solve business problems and adhere to our architecture and technology strategies.
  • Leverage extensive experience to influence and own solution designs and development of our modern architecture.
  • Stay up to date with relevant industry movements. Identify, validate, and endorse trends to be adopted into our operations.
  • Take ownership of the evolution of our internal backend development practices, along with the evolution of applications within the area of remit.
  • Help build out our CI/CD pipeline and AWS deployment infrastructure.
  • Work collaboratively within a cross-functional Agile team, contributing to design, development, deployment, and support activities as required.

What experience you’ll bring

  • Extensive experience building, deploying, maintaining, and supporting microservices
  • Expert knowledge of Java
  • Expert knowledge of Spring Boot and Spring Cloud Microservices frameworks
  • Excellent knowledge and application of SQL and ORM technologies
  • Demonstrated experience identifying application improvement opportunities, proposing appropriate solutions, and driving business cases for endorsement
  • Experience with technical documentation, including high-level and low-level designs, UML diagrams, user guides, and system documentation
  • Experience using and configuring application and system monitoring tools
  • Extensive experience with AWS Developer Tools and ecosystem, as well as Cloud deployment with Docker
  • Ability to work in the Atlassian suite of products: JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket
  • Drive best practice of software application security standards
  • Ability to build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and implement techniques to influence non-technical audiences toward desired outcomes
  • Ability to coach others and share expertise for the greater good of our people and business

Advantageous:

  • A background in financial services applications
  • Knowledge of the IBM “I” platform and/or DB2
  • Location – Our head office is conveniently based in Toowong Village shopping centre – a city fringe location with access to retail, restaurants, various parking options and public transport.
