Renewables - Lead Engineer

The Lead Engineer is a critical role within the Renewables business that supports project development and execution of large-scale renewable energy projects. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in managing engineering processes, providing expert advice on appropriate schedule strategies, design and construction strategies, risk levels, and supply agreements relative to a multi-million-dollar, multi-disciplinary, multi-contract work package, to ensure that cost-effective technical solutions are identified, fully evaluated, and the risk profile is fully understood by the project.
Furthermore, your duties will include:
- Assist with the allocation of priorities and deliverables to meet project schedules.
- Make critical technical decisions to ensure the constructability of the engineering and designs for all renewable energy projects.
- Collaborate with the preparation of tender documentation.
- Support the technical review of Contractors' progress.
- Ensure delivery of the project or substantial work packages on schedule and budget and to specification, working with external vendors, consultants, and contractors.
- Ensure that Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements are fully considered and adhered to in design and construction to ensure compliance with legislation, industry best practice, and Iberdrola standards.
- Coordination of site acceptance tests, commissioning activities, and final site documentation through to handover to the O&M team.
- Support the implementation of engineering standards, procedures, tools, best practices, and quality requirements for large-scale renewable multi-contract work packages.
- Work with the Project Management team, internal and external specialists, and others where key project and business decisions (Technical and Commercial) are considered and approved to secure investment best value.
Based in Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane (with some travel as required to the respective Iberdrola sites), this role offers the opportunity to join one of the world’s leading brands within the energy sector, with a significant pipeline of work ahead.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are seeking candidates with significant experience in renewable energy project design and delivery including Solar PV, Wind, and BESS. Working as part of a multidimensional and international team, you will have the ability to navigate through complex technical questions, review options, anticipate risks, and make decisive decisions. You will have prior experience in a large-scale project and/or construction process with a solid understanding of commercial, financial, and legal terminology. A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering will be required, and a master's degree/chartered engineering will also be highly regarded. Candidates who are able to demonstrate success working with international project teams in diverse and complex environments along with having an extensive portfolio of industry contacts will also be highly regarded.
