Gamuda Engineering is currently delivering the Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package, in a consortium with Laing O’Rourke. The Sydney Metro West project will support a growing city and deliver world-class metro services to more communities, providing a fast and frequent connection between Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Project Director, the Commercial Director is responsible for leading project Commercial team, both upstream and downstream, overseeing the management of all commercial matters relating to the Project. You will successfully oversee contract negotiations, dispute resolution and general contract advisory support to the broader project team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide strong commercial advice on issues relating to commercial/contract management and risk management to assist decision making in line with wider Project objectives. This includes coordinating budget reviews, budget control and project financial reports with stakeholders.
- Manage the negotiation of significant contracts and agreements, risks, settlements and the assessment of claims and negotiations for dispute resolution both upstream and downstream.
- Act as the key point of contact on commercial and contract compliance matters throughout the lifecycle of the project, both internally and externally with relevant clients and delivery partners.
- Ensure all contract issues and conflicting requirements are resolved in a timely, compliant manner and report regularly to senior management on the status of all contracts as required.
- Oversee the successful management of all subcontractors’ payment applications, claims and disputes.
- Build and manage a high-performing project commercial team, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or other Business-related degree.
- Minimum 10 years’ commercial/ contract management experience in major infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of construction contract management, strong collaborative skills with project managers, engineers, and technical teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects on time and within budget.
- Proven management experience, preferably in largescale infrastructure projects with a track record of building and leading high-performing commercial teams.
- Solid understanding of engineering project management principles and practices.
