Reliability Engineers – Heavy Mobile Equipment

We encourage women and Indigenous Peoples to apply, as we advance our business to more accurately reflect the world around us.

  • Join a growing and passionate internal community of reliability experts focussed on delivering excellence in reliability
  • Work with some of the biggest and most diverse mobile fleet within our iron ore business
  • Be part of an inclusive and diverse team that values teamwork, partnership and with a real passion to improve and make things better
  • Real opportunity to make an impact and advance your career

Where we’re all welcome

We are committed to an inclusive environment where people feel comfortable to be themselves. We want our people to feel that all voices are heard, all cultures respected and that a variety of perspectives are not only welcome – they are essential to our success. We treat each other fairly and with dignity regardless of race, gender, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, age, sexual orientation or anything else that makes us different.

At Rio Tinto, we particularly welcome and encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, women, the LGBTI+ community, mature workers, people with disabilities and people from different cultural backgrounds.

About the role

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Reliability Engineers  to join our Maintenance Planning & Engineering Team (MP&E) team at Marandoo within Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO). Working with the latest in technology and innovation, you will use defect elimination and reliability engineering processes to improve asset performance, predominantly for the  heavy mobile and ancillary equipment.

Reporting to the Senior Engineer you will:

  • Lead and support investigations into asset failures and performance, including root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Leverage equipment performance data to successfully identify and implement reliability improvement initiatives
  • Recommend and implement tactics designed to support high levels of asset safety, reliability, and integrity
  • Provide technical engineering support to the site maintenance execution teams
  • Actively contribute to asset strategy by developing asset lifecycle plans and zero-based budgets for mobile equipment
  • Execute both technical and process-based projects derived to improve the performance of the fleet
  • Monitor and analyse the performance of our assets and review primary/ secondary maintenance tasks to improve asset reliability and cost
  • Demonstrate the Rio Tinto values of Care, Courage and Curiosity

What you’ll bring

You are someone who thrives on a challenge and is willing to be creative when solving technical problems. With a natural ability to relate to a diverse range of stakeholders, you will know how to effectively collaborate with others to drive successful outcomes. You would be able to independently manage time and prioritize the right work among all the tasks. Whilst an understanding of reliability-based principles and processes such as root cause analysis (RCA) and defect elimination will be highly regarded, of more importance will be your passion for learning and your enthusiasm for driving improvements and innovation

A ‘C’ class manual driver’s licence will be required, as will tertiary qualifications in engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering degree). Previous experience with SAP and other maintenance and reliability software will be highly desirable.

If you are excited about the role and think you have what it takes but your experience doesn’t align 100% we still want to hear from you.

We are committed to promoting diversity within Rio Tinto and as a special measure we strongly encourage women to apply.

Where you will be working

These positions are based at our Pilbara mining operations, working a FIFO 5/2; 4/3 roster from Perth.

In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, we own an integrated portfolio of iron ore assets: a world-class, integrated network of 16 mines, four independent port terminals, a 1,700-kilometre rail network and related infrastructure – all designed to respond rapidly to changes in demand. We are one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of iron ore.

What we offer

  • Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you’ve helped the world progress.
  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
  • A permanent position working directly for Rio Tinto
  • A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive program
  • Comprehensive medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate family
  • Attractive share ownership plan
  • Company provided insurance cover
  • Extensive salary sacrifice & salary packaging options
  • Career development & education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitions
  • Ongoing access to family-friendly health and medical wellbeing support
  • Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave)
  • To better suit different family needs, our paid parental leave approach gives all parents the option to take 18 weeks of paid leave after a new child arrives – at a time that suits them
  • Exclusive employee discounts including hotel stays, banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more,
  • Full relocation provided to Western Australia from elsewhere in Australia

We are committed to elevating Indigenous voices and increasing cultural knowledge in our business. Diversity of skills, life experiences and perspectives within our team enhances our way of working and our ability to achieve success together. To help you on your journey with us, you’ll also have access to:

  • Specialist Indigenous Support Advisors are always there for our Indigenous employees and available to support through any aspect of your employment
  • Dedicated Indigenous Talent Programme for our Operators and Tradespersons and entry level operational roles. This programme is designed to create long term sustainable careers for our Indigenous Employees to grow into leadership or technical pathways to ensure you have every opportunity to grow your career.
  • Indigenous leadership programmes across some professional and operational roles to ensure that we are developing Indigenous Leaders. In addition to paying competitively and providing great benefits packages, we want you to live the lifestyle that is right for you and your family. And because of our size and scale, there are many opportunities to learn, grow and do more than you ever thought possible.

Every hour of every shift, your safety and wellbeing is our number one priority. We do the work only if it is safe, and we invest to make sure every member of the team has the quality tools they need to do their job.

Who we are

We have been mining for 150 years and operate with knowledge built up across generations and continents. Our purpose is finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs – striving for innovation and continuous improvement to produce materials with low emissions and to the right environmental, social and governance standards. But we can’t do it on our own, so we’re focused on creating partnerships to solve problems, create win-win and meet opportunities.
