The role
As the Senior Analyst you will perform prudential supervision and risk assessment across a defined group of supervised banking and payments organisations to achieve the government's and APRA's objective of providing a prudentially sound financial system.
You will also contribute to developing policy options to reform and implement changes to Australia's payments regulation. You will also assess ADI and PPF licence applications from prospective banks and purchased payment facility providers.
The team
The Banking Division supports APRA's core function by undertaking prudential supervision and risk assessment activities to achieve the government and APRA's objective of providing a prudentially sound financial system. The Divisions strategic focus is to improve outcomes for banking customers. Within the banking division, the team focuses on new entrants and payments.
The team collaborates with a wide range of internal stakeholders, including risk specialists, and the licensing team in policy and advice division. The team also engages externally with Government departments, other regulatory agencies, industry associations and regulated entities.
Key responsibilities
- As a bank supervisor, identify issues and developments that may lead to serious problems and raising these as issues/concerns before they manifest;
- Maintaining an up to date and relevant knowledge of market issues that may impact on supervised organisations and may influence the depth of analysis of supervised organisations;
- Examining the internal structure and business relationships of supervised organisations, giving focus to those areas that have the potential to lead to serious problems;
- Assessing the quality of the supervised organisation's management, strategies, practices and systems;
- The ability to foster and maintain good relationships with internal stakeholders and other regulatory agencies;
- Contributing to policy on payments regulation through collaborative engagement with stakeholders in APRA and from the financial sector and other government agencies;
- Analysing licensing applications to assess their compliance with the prudential standards and the applicant's suitability to be granted a licence; and
- Project managing the numerous steps in a licence application.
About you
- A strong understanding of the banking sector, prudential framework and/or payments;
- Strong influencing and negotiating skills;
- Strong financial analysis, investigative and research skills;
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills to develop solutions for complex issues;
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for advising internal and external stakeholders of key insights, and for engaging with industry;
- Strong priority management skills;
- Good judgement and strategic awareness, and the ability to operate with significant autonomy;
- A team player with a positive mindset and an energetic approach; and
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
