We have a Principal Engineer Process Safety role in in our Integrated Solutions Group.

Urban Utilities has complex infrastructure that supports us to provide water and wastewater services to 1.6 million customers every day, from wastewater treatment plants, underground pipeline networks and other infrastructure that enables us to deliver our core services.

This is a newly designed role in our Engineering & Professional Services team within the Integrated Solutions Group.

This role will see you playing a critical role in the uplift and continuous improvement of our process safety maturity. You will do this by providing subject matter expertise across Urban Utilities through the development of related technical standards and the provision of technical assurance and technical advisory services to assure the capital investment portfolio and protect the integrity of our assets in service.

Your accountabilities will include:

• Provide process safety engineering leadership throughout the business to assist Urban Utilities meet its commitments to safeguard the environment, protect the wellbeing of individuals and minimise business risk.
• Lead or facilitate Safety in Design/Process Hazard Analysis studies such as HAZID, Functional Safety, Bowtie etc. on existing, new, and modified processes to identify risk management approaches and define effective controls to mitigate the process safety risks.
• Drive the development of an effective process safety framework and performance standards and conduct technical assurance reviews and audits to ensure compliance to the standards.
• Provide specialist guidance to senior managers and teams across Urban Utilities to support identification & resolution of process safety risks for our infrastructure in a changing environment (growth, regulatory licenses, emerging technologies, etc).
• Drive a culture of innovation by creating multi-stakeholder solutions that boost creativity, innovation, and collaboration across business units.

About You

We are seeking candidates who are passionate about shaping our future, and ideally have the following qualifications, skills, and experiences:

• Tertiary qualification in any related Engineering discipline and RPEQ registration (or eligibility for registration).
• Prior process safety engineering experience in a brownfield and operational environment in a related industrial sector which could include utilities, petrochemical, energy, mining, or others.
• Significant experience supporting a program to improve process safety maturity using a process safety framework.
• You are passionate and enthusiastic about process safety engineering and are able to develop and implement technical solutions through a partnership led approach with internal and external stakeholders.
• Have a critical thinking and growth mindset when looking to de-bottleneck problems whilst exhibiting high levels of perseverance and resilience.
