About the roles and Talent Pool

We currently have two ongoing senior executive opportunities available in our Economic and Environment Policy (EEP) Group within The Cabinet Office (TCO). 

Additionally, we are seeking to establish an Executive Director, Policy (Public Service Senior Executive [PSSE Band 2]) Talent Pool to fill future vacancies across TCO as they arise over the next 18 months across.

TCO Executive Directors are at the forefront of shaping major policy strategies and leading whole-of-government projects. Join us in driving policy reforms that align with government priorities, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of citizens.

Both available roles provide strategic policy leadership and guidance on complex and politically sensitive issues and manages the development of whole of government policy and projects across Government in relation to the Group’s portfolios within the Economic and Environment Policy Group.

Executive Director, Economic Policy

This role is responsible for Infrastructure, Treasury, Transport, Investment, and Arts, Culture and Sport portfolios. It is focused on identifying opportunities and managing risks associated with large investment decisions and coordinating and developing policy measures that support economic growth, economic reform, investment in NSW, cultural activity and fiscal sustainability. The role also oversights the Fiscal Policy team that coordinates advice from across TCO in relation to the budget cycle and maintains critical strategic partnerships with NSW Treasury.

The following will be highly regarded:

  • ability to deliver strategic policy advice and analysis on complex matters, often within limited timeframes

  • significant experience of NSW Budget processes

  • a background in NSW transport, Infrastructure or investment policy

  • a strong understanding of Cabinet, Parliament and Government administration.

Executive Director, Planning and Housing Policy

This role works to deliver government priorities in the housing sector including rental reform. The team is also working through broader planning policy reform and implementation. The team works closely with a number of teams across The Cabinet Office to drive data-informed decision-making and to deliver outcomes.

The following experience will be highly regarded:

  • ability to deliver strategic policy advice and analysis on complex matters, often within limited timeframes

  • significant experience with the NSW planning system and the housing sector

  • delivering key priorities in partnership with a range of stakeholders on highly contentious issues at all levels (intra-governmental, intergovernmental, and external to government).

  • a strong understanding of Cabinet, Parliament and Government administration

In addition to the above opportunities, we are also seeking interested candidates to form a PSSE Band 2 Talent Pool for future Executive Director, Policy roles. 

Selection for this talent pool will mean that you will be considered for term and ongoing vacancies as they arise over the next 18 months across all our agency.
