The Role: 

As the General Manager - Commercial, you will play a pivotal role in driving McKern Steel’s growth and strategic expansion. Leading a team of professionals, you will be responsible for managing commercial operations, fostering collaboration, and capitalising on emerging opportunities. Leveraging your business acumen, and financial management expertise, you will guide cross-functional teams to ensure innovation and seamless operations. Additionally, you’ll serve as the outward face of the business, building lasting relationships and representing the McKern Steel brand with integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management: Lead, motivate, and mentor the commercial team, providing clear direction and fostering professional development.

Operational Management: Identify and develop new business opportunities, develop and negotiate contracts with stakeholders, and utilise market insights to forecast sales trends.

Customer Focus: Foster strong partnerships with key stakeholders, gaining deep insights into existing customers' needs to ensure exceptional service delivery.

Strategic Direction: Work closely with the Managing Director and General Manager - Operations to develop and execute the company's strategic vision and long-term business plans.

Financial Management: Oversee day-to-day financial activities, including budget development, business activity reports, and cash flow optimisation.

Regulatory Compliance: Lead the development and review of departmental policies and procedures and ensure compliance.

Industry Knowledge: Leverage your construction industry expertise to inform strategic decisions, staying well-informed of sector developments.

Key Experience & Attributes:

  • 5+ years in commercial leadership, preferably in construction.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen with strong financial expertise.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven project management experience and results-driven approach
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products and IT savvy.
  • Exceptional time management and critical thinking abilities.
  • Transparent, collaborative, and honest communication style.
