About the job

The Restrictive Practice Liaison Officer will oversee the authorisation process for implementing Restrictive Practices for Aruma customers. This role involves supporting operational teams to ensure prompt authorisation of Behavior Support Plans by maintaining communication with key stakeholders.

The position collaborates closely with operational teams, Behavior Support practitioners, the Quality, Safeguarding, and Practice Team, the National Reporting & Compliance Team, Therapeutic Services Support Team, and other organisational support functions. The ability to navigate diverse systems, adhere to relevant legislative requirements, and engage collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels is crucial for success in this role.

A day in the life of a Restrictive Practice Liaison Officer...

  • Gather data on customers under regulated restrictive practices and track progress towards completing Behavior Support Plans, maintaining and sharing data with key stakeholders.
  • Assist operational management in ensuring timely authorisation of Behavior Support Plans containing regulated restrictive practices.
  • Compile data on expiring Behavior Support Plans and notify operational management for timely review requests to customers, decision makers/guardians, Support Coordinators, and/or Behavior Support Practitioners.
  • Analyse pending plans on NDISC Portal and unapproved restrictive practices to ensure identification of all regulated restrictive practices.
  • Collaborate with the Quality, Safeguarding, and Practice team to maintain accurate information on the DCJ (NSW) portal.
  • Participate in action planning for customers with longstanding Unresolved Restrictive Practices (URPs) with operational management and key stakeholders.
  • Engage in discussions with external stakeholders (e.g., NDIS Quality & Safeguards Commission) regarding restrictive practice legislation.
  • Escalate concerns about Behavior Support Plans' quality or legislative compliance to the Restrictive Practices Authorisation Manager for referral to the NDISC Behavior Support Team, when necessary.
  • Maintain ongoing liaison with Aruma operational teams to ensure appropriate Behavior Support Plans and current supporting documentation (e.g., Medication Authorisation & Purpose form).
  • Participate in relevant Community of Practice meetings regarding restrictive practices.
  • Support Operational Management in completing Restrictive Practice Intervention System (RIDS) RP Authorisation applications for customers in ACT, including providing consents and other required documents.

What you need to be successful in this role…

  • 3+ years’ experience in Disability Field.
  • Strong Knowledge of Restrictive Practices and relevant legislations at both federal and state levels (NSW & ACT).
  • Strong understanding of the Disability sector and NDIS framework.
  • Proficiency in reporting data through online systems.
  • Excellent Computer Literacy skills, including proficient use of SharePoint and Client Information Systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills essential, coupled with a proactive approach to goal achievement.
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis and report writing.
  • Proven track record of working effectively with complex stakeholder groups.
  • Strong project administrative skills, including time management, task coordination, and efficient work practices.
