About the Role

This is a 12mth Fixed Term Opportunity

Our dynamic and collaborative Workplace relations team currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Workplace Relations Specialist. This role will suit someone who thrives on leading projects and being a point of contact between the department and unions in relation to complex workplace relations matters. You will also be responsible for providing expert and strategic fit-for-purpose advice to DTP leadership on a broad range of workplace relations matters.

  • Provide expert and strategic advice, and lead specific programs of work, as required on a broad range of workplace relations issues, including; Operational and/ reputational risks and the interpretation, review and development of government policies, legislation and workplace relations initiatives.
  • Lead or support the preparation of complex ministerial advice, correspondence, PPQ/PQN, and PAEC briefings with respect to workplace relations matters.
  • Provide direction and oversight for the management of complex workplace relations cases.
  • Advocate in industrial tribunals as required.
  • Manage parcels of work / projects from start to finish consistent with specified outcomes.
  • Undertake direct workplace relations case management and complex investigations.
  • Establish and maintain strong and effective working relationships at senior levels within the department, central government, relevant unions, and service delivery providers to influence outcomes that are aligned to departmental objectives.

With an excellent eye for detail combined with the ability to think logically, you will also have demonstrated experience, and achievements in managing complex HR, industrial and/or workplace relations issues in a public sector environment.

In addition, you will possess.

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the legislative, regulatory and industrial instruments relating to employment and industrial relations in the Victorian Public Service.
  • Demonstrated experience in gaining agreement and building support and ownership of ideas by using appropriate influence to achieve outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change, to maintain composure and focus under pressure and experience in actively promoting and driving change.
  • Proven experience in establishing and maintaining working relationships with key stakeholders, including senior managers within and external to the department.
  • High level ability to provide consultancy and advice to internal stakeholders on a range of complex issues.
  • Proven experience in project management.
  • Demonstrated advocacy experience in external forums and tribunals, including the Fair Work Commission

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • A tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related field
