What you'll do


A part of the Woolworths Group, the wiq team uses advanced analytics and machine learning to solve complex business problems, and works on a wide range of use cases within the retail space across multiple domains.
As the team continues to grow, we are now looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join. This is a key role which will partner with product and engineering stakeholders at all the different levels to influence and educate our engineering and operational teams on SRE philosophy, principles, practices, and benefits.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating, developing, installing and implementing tools required to support the operational management (including security) of software applications and systems
  • Introduce and encourage automation across functional, non-functional and maintenance quality checks and tests
  • Enhance and uplift our security posture across software development life cycle as well as infrastructure
  • Be an ambassador for modern engineering and reliability practices, sharing information and supporting others in their learning, and building strong and energetic team cultures.
  • Take great delight in designing, building, and delivering infrastructure, code, or services to improve the security, availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of our internal or customer-facing services
  • Provide leadership to mentor other Engineers, sharing your best practices and hard-earned learnings for tackling issues across the entire stack; hardware, software, application, and network
  • Work on initiatives to improve observability

What you'll bring

We are looking for an experienced SRE with proven technical capability, alongside great communication skills and an ability to partner and influence with different stakeholders in the business to problem solve and achieve positive outcomes.

  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of building scalable, secure and fault tolerant systems, expert in at least one Programming language (e.g., Python, .Net)
  • Creating and developing tools required to support the operational management (including security) of software applications and systems
  • Experience identifying technology limitations and deficiencies in existing systems and associated processes, procedures and methods, and using software engineering to develop scalable and sustainable improvements
  • Experience implementing and integrating observability tools such as Splunk logging and Splunk Observability.
  • Experience in Site Reliability Engineering or DevOps
  • Extensive experience with cloud computing (ideally GCP but other cloud experience is also beneficial)
  • Commercial experience with build and deployment pipelines (CI/CD) with a focus on automation, infrastructure as code, containerisation and serverless architectures (Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, Terrafirma, Cloud Formation).
