The Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board fosters the adult community education sector in Victoria, referred to as the Learn Local sector, and oversees Victorian Government funding to the sector to ensure that the learning needs of adult Victorians are identified and met.

The Ministerial Statement on the Future of Adult Community Education in Victoria 2020–25 (the Ministerial Statement) outlines the vision for the future of adult community education in Victoria and acknowledges the crucial role that the Learn Local sector plays. The ACFE Board has the lead role in implementing the Ministerial Statement in Victoria.

This is an exciting opportunity for suitably experienced individuals to be appointed as members of the ACFE Board.

There are 8-12 members on the ACFE Board, including the Chairperson and the Deputy Chairperson.

  • plan and promote adult community education in Victoria
  • set the strategic direction to support The Future of Adult Community Education in Victoria 2020–25: Ministerial Statement and the ACFE Board Strategy 2020–25and annual Statement of Expectations for the ACFE Board
  • make decisions balancing the needs of the community and the role and priorities of the government
  • maintain a continuous audit of the income and expenditure of the ACFE allocated resources for the development of programs to support adult community education
  • contribute to the development of policies
  • advise the Minister for Skills and TAFE on matters related to ACFE.
  • review and endorse the ACFE annual report for tabling in Parliament
  • ensure that the ACFE Board operates in accordance with its values, strategic plan and statement of corporate intent
  • ensuring that the ACFE Board is aligned with and meets the priorities of the Victorian State Government
  • maintains strong stakeholder relationships to support ACFE work.

The Board meets approximately 6 times per year. Board members generally participate in at least one of the Board’s committees or working/advisory groups and attend the annual planning days, the annual risk workshop and a Regional Council plenary day.

Who we're looking for

We encourage individuals with skills, knowledge and experience in the following areas to apply:

  • Diversity of the Victorian community
  • Governance and leadership
  • Knowledge of regional/rural Victoria
  • Adult community education (including knowledge and/or experience in the learn local sector)
  • Direct knowledge of diverse learners in the ACFE sector.

In addition, aptitude in the following areas will be considered highly desirable:

  • Public sector governance expertise
  • IT / Digital / Cyber security
  • Legal
  • Project development and planning
  • Research and evaluation
  • Probity
  • Public Policy
  • TAFE sector expertise
  • Government relations
