Exscientia developed the first-ever functional precision oncology platform to successfully guide treatment selection and improve patient outcomes in a prospective interventional clinical study, as well as to progress AI-designed small molecules into the clinical setting.
We’re seeking a Senior Scientist to contribute to our mission to bring better medicines, faster, to people around the world.
As a Senior Scientist in Exscientia’s Precision Medicine team you will take a leading role in the development of novel tools to identify the right anticancer treatments for the right patients with the goal to improve trial success rates and clinical outcomes. You will do this through the development and validation of high content microscopy based assays that quantify drug response in live human tumour tissues at the single cell level. In the groundbreaking EXALT-1 study, we have previously shown that this approach can identify highly effective therapies for individual patients (Kornauth et al., Cancer Discovery 2021) in haematology in a way that is orthogonal to classical NGS based treatment selection approaches.
As a Senior Scientist you will be deeply embedded in a cross functional team of biologists, clinicians, bioinformaticians and software developers and work with cutting-edge high content screening technology, primary human biospecimen and collaborate with leading academic and commercial partners worldwide.

**As Senior Scientist in the Precision Medicine team you will have the opportunity to**
Build cutting-edge patient selection tools that will drive research & development programmes at the forefront of cancer precision medicine. In particular, you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead high content imaging assay optimization, automation and validation efforts within Exscientia’s precision medicine group.
- Supervise a team of research associates to perform assays in the wet lab.
- Collaborate with leading academic and clinical research centres in Europe and the US;
- Contribute to clinical and translational research programmes aimed at evaluating the ability to predict clinical outcome based on the measurement of drug response in live human tumour tissues _ex vivo_.
**What’s Required?**
- At least a PhD in biomedical sciences (molecular biology, biochemistry or similar)
- At least 2 years of prior experience in industry or a quality managed academic environment in the field of analytical methods development, assay development, high throughput screening or similar.
- Strong knowledge of common molecular biology techniques including
- Cell culture
- Flow cytometry
- DNA / RNA prep
- Fluorescences microscopy
- Experience with the development of high content imaging assay, management of big data and working with primary cells is a bonus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Highly motivated and track record of success
- Leadership experience of small teams of up to 2-5 individuals working towards a common goal is a bonus.
