The Department of Philosophy is looking for a predoctoral researcher to work in (joint) projects with Univ. Prof. Dr. Tarja Knuuttila, Professor of Philosophy of Science. Univ. Prof. Dr. Tarja Knuuttila’s areas of specialization include, among others, scientific modeling and representation, with a special focus on synthetic biology and economics, and interdisciplinary relations between different scientific domains.

**Duration of employment**: 2 year/s

**Extent of Employment**: 30 hours/week

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Active participation in research, teaching and administration, including:

- Participation in collaborative research projects
- Internationally visible publications and presentations
- Participation in the organization of conferences/workshops/symposia/lecture series, including coordinating roles
- Writing a doctoral dissertation in one of the above-mentioned research areas
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
- Academic services such as active involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

**Profile**:

- Successfully completed Master’s degree in philosophy, or in related domains (e.g. cognitive sciences)
- Outstanding performance in your university studies
- Research focus in one or several of the following fields: Philosophy of physics, scientific modeling, interdisciplinarity
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills
- Organizational and teamwork skills

Desirable qualifications are:

- Background in natural sciences, especially in physics
- Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
- Experience abroad
- Experiences in research projects and in the organization of conferences
- Experience of supervising students
- German language skills sufficient for teaching in the Bachelor's program
