The internship is located in the Claims Processing Unit (CPU) of the United Nations Register of Damage caused by the Construction of the Wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The overall objective of UNRoD is to establish and maintain a Register of Damage caused by the construction of the Wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory in accordance with General Assembly Resolution ES-10/17. The objective will be achieved through the progressive registration of damage claims and maintenance of the Register of Damage.
The internship is unpaid and full-time for duration of six months.

The intern will work five days a week (40 hours) under the direct supervision of the Senior Legal Officer.

**Responsibilities**:
The primary objective of the work of the intern(s) is to provide support to the Claims Officers in the Claims Processing Unit. Under the direct supervision of the Senior Legal Officer and in coordination with Claims Officers, the intern will assist with following duties:
(a) Reviewing claim forms and supporting documentation based on established eligibility criteria and making
recommendations concerning the inclusion of claims into the Register;
(b) Keeping an accurate record of claims brought before the Register of Damage;
(c) Preparing case summaries, case presentations and reports;
(d) Providing input, basic interpretation of policies to ensure timely and accurate processing;
(e) Analyse factual and legal situations presented in a variety of claims or of claims from the same location;
(f) Undertaking legal research;
(g) Preparing claims and documents for Board Meetings;
(h) Assisting with archive related tasks (filing of claims and supporting documentation and in the maintenance
of the archives) to gain an understanding on the functioning of the Register's archive;
(i) Fulfil other duties as required and assigned.

Education

(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); (c) have graduated with a university degree and can commence the internship within one year period of graduation. - Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
