This position is located in the Legal and Policy Team (LPT) within the Operational and Advisory Support Unit (OASU), Human Resources Management Service (HRMS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Team Leader of LPT.

**Responsibilities**:
Within assigned authority, the Legal Assistant will be responsible for the following specific duties:

- Assist in the administration of the overall workload of the Legal and Policy Team, i.e. provide administrative support in managing priorities and work-flow of the Team, status updates and other relevant information.
- Research and compile legal materials for use in the preparation of legal positions for cases before the Administration of Justice system and assist in the preparation of related case material, including jurisprudence research.
- Maintain statistics and legal case records and assist in providing related data inputs to various oversight bodies.
- Maintain and monitor automated database containing HR related requests for legal/policy advice and input organized by establishing and organizing files; assist in processing materials received to relevant individuals in the Team by monitoring calendars and deadlines, documenting actions, inputting information into file database and case management software, confirming case status and progress with the Team.
- Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. Assist with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages, etc.
- Perform other work-related duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent.

A recognized first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) may be accepted in lieu of two years of required work experience.

Job - Specific Qualification

Having passed the Administrative Support Assessment Test [in English] at the United Nations headquarters, Economic Commission for Africa, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, United Nations Office at Geneva, United Nations Office at Vienna, International criminal tribunal for Rwanda or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia may be accepted in lieu of the GGST.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years (or three years in combination with a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) of experience in paralegal work and/or assistance preferably in the fields of Human Resources, Business and Commercial Law or related area is required.

Work experience in the area of human resources policies, procedures, practices, regulations and rules, as well as the administration of justice, is desirable.

Work experience within an international organization is desirable.

Work experience within the United Nations System is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
