**The GMI**, **Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology**, is part of the Vienna BioCenter, a leading life science cluster in Vienna that includes several research institutes, universities, and start-up companies. The institute is owned and funded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). Research topics include basic mechanisms of epigenetics, cell biology, plant-pathogen interactions, developmental biology, and population genetics. The GMI provides a lively, international working environment with around 130 people.

Next to its core funding, the institute also runs a substantial number of research projects, grants, and fellowships. To ensure the flawless administration of its third-party funding and to maintain and further develop its high-quality research profile/portfolio, we are seeking to recruit a dedicated:
**GRANT MANAGER (f/m/x) - 32h-40h**

(Maternity leave replacement)

**YOUR FUTURE ROLE**:
In this role you will be the primary point of contact with researchers in all matters related to the planning, acquisition and administrative implementation of third-party funded projects, as well as the exploitation of research results. You will manage the overall grant portfolio and be responsible for maintaining effective and efficient processes related to third-party funding. You will act as a liaison between scientific team leaders, administrative departments (e.g. accounting, controlling, and HR) and funding organizations (incl. the European Union, FWF, and others). Your specific tasks will include:

- **Project controlling**: Planning, monitoring, and administration of grant budgets in coordination with accounting and the scientific project lead. Monitoring and administration of grant-related payments from funding organizations.
- **Portfolio management and reporting**: Preparation of monthly and quarterly spending reports (expenditures for personnel and consumables, calculation of estimated future costs, calculation of remaining budget) and handling of other internal and external reporting requirements.
- **Annual budget planning/annual accounts**: Cooperation with Controlling department and provision of grants related information to annual budget planning and annual accounts processes.
- **Communication** with relevant funding organizations including the EU, FWF, and others as well as project partner organizations.
- **Administrative assistance** to lead researchers: support in fulfilling administrative requirements, collection and revision of timesheets, contract management, keeping administrative project files, financial reporting, and conducting audits.
- **Keeping up to date information** on grant programs, requirements, and guidelines.
- **Identifying and developing strategies** to optimize the grant administration process.

**YOUR PROFILE**:

- University degree in commerce, molecular biology, or a similar qualification
- 2 years of relevant work experience - knowledge of the Austrian and European funding landscape. Proven proficiency in accounting or controlling is an advantage
- Excellent project management skills - experience in managing research projects is an asset
- Excellent organizational and presentation skills
- Strong command of written and verbal communication in both English and German
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- High reliability and confidentiality
- Good knowledge of planning and strategizing financial and budgeting issues as well as a high level of numeracy
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and sensitivity for diversity
- Proficient in using Microsoft office software (on Windows operating system) and Excel in particular
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work, meet deadlines and produce quality results on time with attention to detail

The annual gross salary (FTE) for this position is around € 30.176,02 (annual minimum according to collective agreement, full-time, 40h). The final salary will be dependent on your qualifications and professional experience.
