**That’s the project**

The production of recombinant proteins used as biopharmaceuticals, industrial enzymes and novel animal protein replacement in nutrition is of paramount importance for both public health and a sustainable bio-based economy. Improving the biological production platforms, including the yeast _Pichia pastoris_ (syn _Komagataella phaffii_), is an important tool to make bioprocesses sustainable in the long term and at the same time economically competitive. The aim of this project is to develop novel parts and genetic tools that allow for regulatable gene expression, while avoiding the use of hazardous substances.

Such parts will be identified by systems biology approaches (omics). Cloning and genetic manipulations will be carried out using state-of the art-methods such as Golden Gate Assembly and CRISPR/Cas9-based homology directed recombination (HDR). The resulting strains will be characterized for growth and productivity in high throughput screening and bioreactor cultivations.

**That’s important to us**

In the best way you have completed a Master and PhD degree (or equivalent) in biotechnology, biochemical engineering, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or similar study.
- Strong background in synthetic biology, promoter engineering, molecular biology, biotechnology
- Excellent skills in spoken and written English, an organized approach with strong attention to detail and good communication skills with ability to work well in teams.

- Research will take place in the Institute of Microbiology & Microbial Biotechnology at the Department of Biotechnology of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU)
- The annual gross salary is **EUR 61,000**.
This corresponds to a monthly net amount of EUR 2,790 (paid 14 times a year).
