The Department of Sociology combines scientific research and teaching at the University of Vienna. The Department of Sociology, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, is influenced by the historical traces of the Viennese Sociology, which is dedicated to the understanding of social problems, empirical research and sociological theory.

At the Department of Sociology, the position of a University Assistant (post-doc, non-tenure track, for the duration of 3 years) is to be filled (full-time position, from 1 May 2023). You work at the intersection of sociology, labour market research and demography and you will have the possibility to work within a team with interdisciplinary and international networks, while further developing your own independent research profile. This position comes with the opportunity to work with Austrian register data (AMDC), both in the frame of on-going projects and planning /designing new projects in the areas of education, couple households, birth, parenthood, employment
- and earnings trajectories.

**Duration of employment**: 3 year/s

**Extent of Employment**: 40 hours/week

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Active participation in research, teaching and administration within the area Social Stratification and Quantitative Methods (Prof. Nadia Steiber). This involves
- Developing an independent research profile using administrative/register data in social science
- Involvement in research projects / research studies
- International publications and presentations
- Writing of project proposals and the acquisition of third-party funding
- Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

**Profile**:

- Doctoral degree/PhD in sociology, economics or demography or a related field with a focus on quantitative methods of analysis
- Social scientific competencies in one or more of the following areas: social inequality, education, labour market, employment, family sociology/demography, migration, life course analyses, wellbeing/ health
- Excellent publication record, publications in highly ranked international academic journals
- Experience with or interest in data visualization
- Excellent programming competencies in Stata or R
- Experience in designing and participating in research projects
- Willingness to acquire third-party funding
- Enthusiasm for excellent teaching
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Ability to work in a team

Desirable qualifications are
- Experience with presenting research at international conferences
- Research experience (during or after doctoral studies) outside the University of Vienna
- Experience with analysing large datasets (e.g. register data)
