Research Opportunity in Hybrid Aeroacoustic Simulation

We are seeking a highly motivated master's student to investigate the aeroacoustic noise emission from a rotating axial fan. The scope of this thesis is to model the fan as a rotating Embedded Body (EMBB) on a stationary mesh using AVL FIRE M.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply scale-resolving approaches to simulate turbulent flow fields, such as Large-Eddy Simulation (LES), to deliver accurate acoustic source terms.
  • Model the rotating fan as an EMBB with open CFS for solving the PCWE using AVL FIRE M.
  • Analyze and compare flow and acoustic results against literature for validation.
  • Conduct literature research on the hybrid CAA approach and current methods for LES simulation of rotating fans.

Requirements:

  • Ongoing master studies in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Experience with 3D simulation and meshing is an advantage.
  • Programming skills are beneficial.
  • English or German language skills are required.
