The University of Vienna, in collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna, is establishing the initial Austrian node of the European life sciences infrastructure, ELIXIR. This node will expand over the coming years to include additional institutions from academia, industry, and government, aiming to enhance access to and analysis of life science data for Austrian researchers, thereby improving the impact of life science research on public health, the environment, and the economy.
We are in search of a motivated professional (m/f/d) with substantial experience in coordinating research infrastructures to serve as the ELIXIR Austria node coordinator. This position is initially limited to a period of 4 years, with potential for extension. The position will be based at the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science at the University of Vienna.
Position Overview:In this role, you will be the primary coordinator for all activities related to the ELIXIR Austria node, which encompasses services, training, and resources associated with life science data. You will facilitate communication within the ELIXIR AT node, with other nodes, ELIXIR Europe, and all relevant stakeholders. Additionally, you will oversee the acquisition of foundational and project-related funding and report directly to the head of ELIXIR AT. Some national and international travel will be required.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist the head of ELIXIR AT and the leadership group in planning and executing activities within the Austrian node.
- Foster collaboration in infrastructure development among partner institutions.
- Manage communication and cooperation within ELIXIR AT and with ELIXIR's Hub and other nodes.
- Establish and maintain effective channels for interaction among relevant professional environments at partner institutions, ELIXIR AT, and internationally.
- Coordinate collaborations with other pertinent research infrastructures at local, national, and international levels.
- Engage in writing funding proposals and related reporting.
- Contribute to external communications and operations, including the node's website and social media presence.
- PhD or equivalent university education.
- Experience in financing and coordinating scientific projects across multiple institutions, including international collaborations.
- Background in working with or maintaining life science infrastructure.
- Experience in inter- and transdisciplinary research is advantageous.
- Familiarity with research administration, particularly in larger projects, is a plus.
- Knowledge of the Austrian academic, industry, and government sectors, as well as EU instruments, is beneficial.
- Understanding of research policy and collaborations between academia, business, and government is an asset.
- Proficiency in English and German, both written and spoken, is required.
