We invite highly motivated students to contribute to a groundbreaking research project at AVL List GmbH. This master thesis will focus on developing smart monitoring components for highly automated vehicles using Dynamic Vision Sensors and neuromorphic computing.

About the Project

In collaboration with a HorizonEurope research project, we aim to analyze and implement a novel approach based on event-based DVS and neuromorphic computing. The goal is to create a prototypical smart sensor that evaluates energy consumption, accuracy, and robustness in various automotive scenarios.

  • State of the Art Analysis: Investigate existing approaches to perform machine learning on DVS streams.
  • Model Selection and Fine-Tuning: Choose a suitable model, fine-tune it if necessary, and validate its performance in a typical automotive setting.
  • Alternative Approach: Develop a simple own model by applying multi-stage learning using an existing perception system as feature extractor.
  • Porting to Neuromorphic Computing: Transfer the selected model to run on a neuromorphic computing system or simulator.
  • Evaluation: Test the implemented smart sensor in real-world driving scenarios on AVL's proving ground.
Your Profile

To succeed in this project, you should possess:

  • Ongoing studies in Computer Science, Telematics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Good knowledge in data management and machine learning model development.
  • Fluency in German and English.
  • Able to work independently with professional guidance from our experienced team members.
