We are seeking a Director of People & Culture to lead our pre-opening initiatives at Mandarin Oriental, Vienna.

Mandarin Oriental, Vienna will be situated in a historic structure, featuring 151 guest accommodations and suites arranged around a central courtyard, along with a restaurant, bar, and outdoor garden. The establishment will also include a Spa at Mandarin Oriental, equipped with treatment rooms, a swimming pool, and a comprehensive fitness center. A variety of adaptable event and meeting spaces will be available for social gatherings.

The 17 Residences at Mandarin Oriental will occupy the uppermost floors of the building, offering private access to the rooftop, with several apartments boasting outdoor terraces and breathtaking views of the city. These residences will represent some of the most exclusive living spaces in the area, with owners benefiting from Mandarin Oriental's renowned service and direct access to hotel amenities.

As the Director of People & Culture, you will act as a strategic partner to the General Manager and Leadership team, responsible for translating business objectives into actionable People & Culture strategies. Your role will involve building a cohesive People & Culture team equipped to deliver impactful HR solutions, fostering a culture that attracts, retains, and engages talent while emphasizing colleague experiences that mirror the exceptional service expected by our guests. You will also identify key performance indicators to measure the return on investment of People & Culture initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the People & Culture strategy aligned with the hotel's operational needs, ensuring consistent guest service, colleague productivity, and safety while striving for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to enhance the hotel's involvement in the local community.
  • Facilitate colleague development through coaching, mentoring, and effective communication, utilizing tools such as the Balanced Scorecard for goal setting and feedback.
  • Partner with senior management to design, communicate, and implement organizational structures and People & Culture programs that support ongoing business objectives.
  • Provide effective tools and processes throughout the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, learning and development, performance management, talent management, and compensation programs, aimed at attracting and retaining skilled colleagues.
  • Formulate a talent acquisition and recruitment strategy that considers local nuances and retention of key personnel.
  • Define and communicate relevant HR metrics and KPIs to assess the effectiveness of programs and services.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and innovations in the industry and monitor competitor activities.
  • Ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations.
  • Act as a catalyst for continuous transformation, enhancing processes and fostering a culture that improves the organization's adaptability to change.
  • Establish a structured training and development framework that aligns with the hotel's, company's, and individual needs.
  • Drive the optimization of both fixed and variable Human Resources expenditures, ensuring alignment with financial objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in Human Resources within hospitality operations, preferably in luxury hotel environments.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to collaborate effectively with the General Manager and leadership team to advance the People & Culture agenda.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in German and English, with strong presentation abilities.
  • Proficient in analyzing and interpreting complex data and integrated spreadsheets.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to meet deadlines and execute projects effectively.
  • Familiarity with Austrian labor legislation and processes, along with proficiency in payroll and HR systems.
