Data Engineer for Precision Immunology

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our pioneering team at Merantix. As a Data Engineer for Precision Immunology, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing robust data solutions to support our unique lab-in-the-loop AI discovery system for immunology.

Your primary responsibilities will include developing and maintaining scalable data/MLOps pipelines capable of handling multi-modal biological data, including high-content microscopy and single-cell sequencing data. Additionally, you will implement data management practices that ensure integrity, accessibility, and compliance, adhering to FAIR data principles.

Requirements
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in computer science, computational biology, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Python for ML (e.g. Pytorch/Tensorflow), and optionally R (NGS/bioinformatics toolchains)
  • Prior experience working with large scale biological data
  • Experience with cloud computing (GCP, AWS, or Azure) / HPC systems
  • Familiarity with MLOps to support model lifecycle management and deployment
  • Strong understanding of data management best practices, incl. familiarity with database and API systems (e.g. MongoDB, Django)
  • Independent thinker with a hacker mindset: you know when to balance short term needs vs. tech debt

This is a hybrid/remote position with occasional on-sites that we decide on together. The base of operations will be in the Vienna area.

In keeping with Austrian legal requirements, we advertise a minimum gross yearly salary of 60,000€ for this position. However, the actual salary will be higher, based on the candidates' qualifications and experience.
