Location ProfileDoveton College is a unique, diverse and vibrant learning community located in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, in one of the most disadvantaged metropolitan regions of Australia.
In 2009, the Colman Foundation approached the Victorian Government to become directly involved in the education of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including high migrant and refugee groups.
Doveton College has become a model for community-based, inclusive education across multiple sites in Victoria.
The College supports all community members, including children, young people, and adults, with high-quality teaching and learning programs across the 0 – 15 range, as well as additional learning opportunities for parents and community members.
It provides various educational and allied health support services.
The College has approximately 100 children in the Early Learning Centre, over 600 students in Foundation to Year 9, and offers various extracurricular programs.
Selection CriteriaSC1: Demonstrated expert knowledge of the relevant curriculum and ability to model exemplary teaching practice.
SC2: Expertise in implementing high impact teaching strategies that respond to student learning needs.
SC3: Ability to model monitoring and assessment of student learning.
SC4: Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills to engage with students, colleagues, and the community.
SC5: Ability to model behaviours consistent with Department values and facilitate professional learning.
RoleLearning Specialists are skilled classroom practitioners who deliver high-quality teaching and learning.
They have responsibilities including teaching demonstration lessons, providing feedback to teachers, and facilitating professional learning.
They ensure a child-safe environment in accordance with child safe standards.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities of the Learning Specialist include:
Demonstrating high-level expertise in teaching and learning practice.Modelling exemplary classroom practice.Leading implementation of whole-school improvement strategies.Providing professional learning as required.Mentoring and coaching teachers.Using student data to inform teaching approaches.Who May ApplyTeachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach in the curriculum areas specified.
