The Marine Science Program aims to ensure the department's marine biodiversity conservation and management programs are based on best practice science.
The program promotes and undertakes marine research and monitoring to improve the scientific basis for the conservation and management of Western Australia's state-wide system of marine protected areas, threatened marine fauna and marine biodiversity generally.
Marine research and monitoring are based around the strategies identified in protected area management plans and threatened species recovery/management plans.
We are currently seeking a Research Officer (Marine Remote Sensing) to undertake designated marine research and monitoring, evaluation and reporting for the conservation of Western Australia's marine biodiversity, with a focus on marine and coastal mapping using remotely sensed data in marine parks and reserves, under immediate supervision of senior scientists and in consultation and collaboration with Parks and Wildlife Service regional staff.

Selection Criteria Applicants should address the following five (5) criteria.
These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total. Experience undertaking remote sensing projects (Essential), particularly on marine benthic habitats and/or coastal ecosystems (Desirable).Demonstrated skills using GIS software (e.g.
ArcGIS, QGIS), programming languages (e.g.
R, Python) and undertaking data management and statistical analyses.Well-developed interpersonal, communication and scientific writing skills (Essential), with a record of publishing science in peer-reviewed journals (Desirable).An understanding of techniques used to ground truth remotely sensed data in the field (e.g.
Remotely Piloted Aircraft, in-water Remotely Operated Vehicles, drop cameras, field plots) (Essential) and experience utilising them in a marine environment (Desirable).Demonstrated experience working in teams to undertake research and/or monitoring.About Us DBCA, one of Western Australia's largest state government agencies, providing exciting and challenging career opportunities in biodiversity conservation and park and natural resource management.
