The Opportunity The ENDRHD program has an ambitious goal to end rheumatic heart disease in Australia by 2031 through a comprehensive research program and bringing together community, researchers, practitioners & funders. The program focuses on Indigenous leadership to guide, support and drive research that is culturally appropriate and inclusive, and to make a meaningful and important impact on the communities we work alongside.
The program comprises of 5 teams who undertake ground-breaking work that spans a wide research portfolio of basic science to translational projects, including progressing the understanding of the epidemiology of Strep A infections in Australia and the world.
The Strep A Translation team aims to understand the epidemiology of Strep A infections and we now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Officer to play a key role in implementing epidemiology and health economic projects through strong epidemiological and analytical skills and contribute to our aim of ending rheumatic heart disease.
Reporting to the Executive Director, in this role you will develop mathematical and statistical modelling for analysis, devise analysis plans, contribute to manuscripts for publication, scientific protocols, research documents and methodological concepts; contributing to ethics applications; and conducting research with Investigators, collaborators and community partners. This role also allows opportunities to develop independent, but linked, lines of research and thus would be an ideal stepping stone to an ongoing research career.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Provide technical guidance on surveillance methodology, including recruitment strategies, risk mitigation, and data analyses.Develop a model to extrapolate from country to regional and global burden estimates.Perform cost-effectiveness analyses, including modelling cost and health outcomes of interventions and carrying out sensitivity analyses.Devise analysis plans for data analysis to be included in methods section of relevant peer-reviewed manuscripts.Mentor and provide training to junior research staff and students.Based at our modern offices at Perth's Children's Hospital, this position will be offered on a full-time basis with part-time considered for the right candidate.
About You The successful applicant for this role will hold a degree in a related field e.g., public health, mathematics, statistics, or economics, with strong epidemiological and analytical skills, ideally with experience in mathematical and statistical modelling and will be passionate about achieving excellence in research through collaboration and partnership, particularly with Indigenous communities.

Demonstrated data analysis skills and proficiency in a statistical or general programming language (e.g., R, SAS, STATA, Python, Matlab).High-level written and oral communication skills including a track record in scientific publications and presentations.Ability to work effectively as part of a broad, multidisciplinary team, including ability to be adaptable and flexible working within an environment subject to change.Experience in field epidemiology and/or economic evaluations or econometrics is considered desirable.We are driving inclusion and diversity as part of the way we work and embrace the diverse career and life experiences of our staff.
