Community & Social Responsibility Specialist - PNG FIFO Health, Safety & Environment (Mining, Resources & Energy) New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province.
The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of the life of the mine, it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.
About the role Driving positive change through community engagement and social responsibility (CSR) which is at the heart of our license to operate in Porgera.
As part of our dedicated Community and Social Responsibility department, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing our CSR strategy, engaging stakeholders, managing land access, and driving impactful community development initiatives.
Your role will be to develop and implement CSR strategy in alignment with company goals and industry best practices, leading stakeholder engagement initiatives, fostering positive relationships with local communities, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to deliver development projects that create sustainable socio-economic benefits for local communities.
This will also include overseeing land access and vacant land management activities.
The performance of the team and its success will need to be understood by implementing key social performance indicators, monitoring progress and driving continuous improvement, collaborating with the broader operation to identify opportunities for CSR integration and value creation.
Ensuring governance and compliance with statutory and agreement-related obligations is key, including local laws, permits, and community agreements whilst also ensuring adherence to NPL sustainability standards, regulatory requirements, and community interests.
A key feature of this role involves drafting, reviewing, and evaluating agreements.
You will model safety behaviors and coach and develop your team, working with your team to assess and manage risk.
NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with a strong ability in delivery to support the mine's successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.

You will be a natural self-starter who will bring initiative and ideas to your team, set clear accountabilities and visible leadership with a focus on safety supporting production.
Given the dynamic environment, you must demonstrate agility and an ability to work effectively under pressure, understand and meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
To succeed in this role, you will have significant previous experience in leading CSR functions with a bachelor's degree in social sciences, anthropology, Law, or related field and preferably within the mining industry or extractive sector in a developing nation.
You will be able to articulate a strong understanding of CSR principles, stakeholder engagement methodologies, and community development practices combined with their practical implementation across internal and external stakeholders in a developing country context.
Ideally, you will have experience in managing land access and dealing with land tenure issues and knowledge of Papua New Guinea's regulatory environment and community dynamics.
You will demonstrate a 'One Team' approach, providing effective leadership and development for your local team to reinforce NPL's culture and values, always promoting a safe work environment.
The position requires a high-energy individual, hands-on management style, and desire to continuously improve you and your team's knowledge and systems and methods of work.
