About the role The Office of Teaching & Research Technical Services is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Coordinator to join one of our technical support teams.
The Senior Technical Coordinator supports the field-based research facilities of the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment (HIE), including key sites such as the Whole Tree Chambers (WTC), rainout shelters (ROS), and the PACE facility.
This position provides specialised technical support for research programs studying the effects of environmental factors like carbon dioxide, water, temperature, and humidity on ecosystems.
The Technical Coordinator will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of environmental sensor systems and data collection devices, and.
ensuring all equipment functions correctly and that experiments are well-controlled and monitored.
Collaboration with academic staff, students, and visiting researchers is crucial to ensure the smooth operation of field experiments and achieve high quality outcomes.
About You The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in managing complex field-research experiments related to plant growth and health, including operating field site vehicles and machinery, as well as performing site maintenance tasks such as mowing, slashing, and applying herbicides and pesticides.
Proficiency in operating field-research instrumentation, such as neutron probes, soil moisture sensors, and soil and plant sampling techniques, is essential.
The candidate must also exhibit strong analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills with high-level organisational abilities.
Additionally, the candidate should have experience using data loggers and connecting sensor systems to appropriate data collection devices, as well as the ability to gather and analyse data using statistical tools like R and/or Python.
