As a Senior Policy Officer you will be a key team member of the Policy and Legislation Division which serves to apply, review and appropriately maintain Queensland's revenue legislation and provide reliable revenue policy advice to the Queensland Government.
You will provide advice on complex State revenue and related issues and contribute to the delivery of QRO's legislative program.
You will work in a small, dynamic and high achieving team to consider policy and legislative issues across Queensland's revenue legislation, such as duties, taxes and grants.
Your typical day as a Senior Policy Officer may include:
Providing policy advice to the Treasurer on complex policy proposals or issues relating to revenue legislation.
This could involve researching the history and intent of legislative provisions, analysing legislation in other states, and collaborating with teams across the Queensland Revenue Office and other agencies.
You will prepare briefing notes, presenting your findings and making accurate and appropriate recommendations.Assisting with designing changes to revenue legislation and instructing the Office of the Queensland Parliamentary Counsel on drafting.
You will utilise your high-level statutory interpretation skills and build a thorough understanding of Queensland's legislative processes.
You will have a unique opportunity to be involved in legislative changes right from their initial conception all the way through to implementation.Reviewing correspondence from taxpayers, their professional advisers and stakeholders on complex matters.
You will distil the key issues and work with operational teams to gather relevant information, before utilising your writing skills to prepare responses to the issues.
This will build your technical knowledge in many different areas of law, including administrative law, commercial and property law, as well as your knowledge of revenue administration.The role presents opportunities to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other team members as well across the Queensland Revenue Office and with other agencies.
You will be in a positive and constructive team environment and supported by divisional leaders as you do your work.
You will also have an opportunity to work with Senior Executive leaders.
