Student Counsellor

We are seeking a suitably experienced Student Counsellor to join our College Wellbeing team on a full-time ongoing basis.
The Student Counsellor will work with a team of teachers and student welfare personnel in the area of student support.
The Student Counsellor will fully understand Child Safety requirements at the College and will ensure that all elements of the role promote the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all children.
Key responsibilities include: Responsibilities to Students: Provide individual and group counselling to studentsBe a liaison with parents regarding their concerns for the childAssess student needs and develop appropriate case management plans to meet those needsFollow-up on issues and/or students who are identified as being at-riskWork with the school staff to increase students' life skills, personal development, and social connectednessIdentify issues affecting secondary students and develop responses to those issuesTo be a liaison with external agencies to maintain a network of support agencies, including community health centres and counselling servicesDocument contact with students and review progress with ongoing clientsTo be involved in the planning, delivery and coordination of Personal Development Programs and Seminar daysInform the Director of Counselling of emerging issues in student welfareOther duties as directed by the Deputy Principal (Wellbeing)Responsibilities to Staff: Collaborate effectively as part of the student support team and liaise with key college personnelDevelop strategies to help teachers identify student needs and take action to meet those needsAssist classroom teachers in aspects of the curriculum that focus on personal development issuesAssist in the Years 6 to 7 and Years 9 to 10 transition processes as neededProvide support to staff regarding managing/supporting studentsConvene progress meetings for those students identified as being at riskOther duties as directed by the Deputy Principal (Wellbeing)The successful candidate will have the following experience, skills and attributes: Relevant qualifications (Counselling/Psychology/Social Work degree or higher; or equivalent), combined with relevant counselling experience.Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to consult and liaise with a wide range of people.Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products.Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively monitor and coordinate a workload.Ability to negotiate and resolve sensitive issues in a confidential manner.Experience in conducting risk assessments (including suicide risk and child safety).Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.Strong attention to detail and ability to keep accurate data of service.Why work at St Francis Xavier College?
