What Will You Do?
As an Aboriginal Health Worker, your role will be dynamic and impactful.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Client Support : Assist clinicians with client intake, assessments, follow-ups, and discharge processes to ensure smooth and seamless care.
Culturally Engaging Sessions : Lead group sessions, delivering culturally safe and engaging health education and yarning circles.
Record Keeping : Maintain accurate client electronic medical records when appropriate.
Encourage Access to Services : Help First Nations people access health services and support them through the process.
Assessment Support : Assist clinicians with completing assessments and surveys to evaluate health outcomes.
Telehealth Facilitation : Coordinate and facilitate telehealth sessions between clients and clinicians.
Identify & Address Barriers : Work with the Primary Health team to identify and remove barriers preventing First Nations individuals and families from accessing health services.
Health Education : Provide culturally appropriate education to improve health literacy within the community and empower individuals to make informed health decisions.
What Do You Need?
To be successful in this role, you'll bring the following qualities:
Cultural Connection: You identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, which is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Strong Communication Skills: You have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to tailor your approach to meet the unique cultural needs of the community.
Relevant Qualifications: You've completed or are willing to complete a minimum Certificate 3 qualification in Aboriginal Health, Community, or Disability.
Commitment to Growth: You're passionate about learning new skills and following through on tasks with dedication and attention to detail.
Community Engagement: You have a natural ability to build strong relationships and connect with Aboriginal people in your community.
Tech-Savvy: You're comfortable with computers and able to adapt quickly to new software and applications.
Health Knowledge: You understand how to identify and support First Nations community members with chronic health issues and guide them to the right referral pathways.
