Meeka Metals Limited (MEK) is building Western Australia's newest gold mine, and we now require a proactive Safety and Emergency Officer to join the HSEC team at our flagship site - Murchison Gold Project.
The project is a combined open pit and underground mining operation with an initial 9-year mine life.
Site activities are ramping up now with construction underway, mining operations commencing early in 2025 and processing commencing shortly thereafter.
About the Role The role reports into the Health and Safety Superintendent and is responsible for providing technical advice and support to the site leadership team and employees regarding all Health and Safety and Emergency Response requirements on a 8:6 roster, FIFO from Perth. Key Responsibilities: Provide leadership and strategic direction in Health and Safety management and Emergency preparedness.Promote a positive health and safety culture and environment for all site personnel.Establish effective Emergency Response Team (ERT) through promoting and recruiting participants to the team.Coordinate all emergency response training requirements and develop skills pathways for (ERT) members.Implement and monitor the emergency drill schedule ensuring compliance and ongoing improvement against key metrics.Identify and report potential hazards and eliminate risk-taking behaviours or actions of site personnel.Maintain the site Emergency Response Plan and train all employees and contractors in the duty card system.Develop and maintain emergency response equipment registers including asset register, maintenance records and usage report.Develop robust procedures, reports and site policies to ensure investigations of all incidents are reported accurately.Oversee the treatment of presented injuries or medical conditions.Co-ordinate off-site treatment and monitor the Return-to-Work case requirements.Maintain the site medical clinic to an operational level including ordering stock and supplies, cleanliness and hygiene monitoring.About You +4 years' experience in a similar role within a live mining environment.Knowledge of the DEMIRS Safety Regulation System.Developed numeracy, written and verbal communication skills.The ability to coordinate and prioritise workloads.Display sound judgement and problem-solving abilities.Experience in the Microsoft Office suite of software.Required Certificates: Certificate IV Occupational Health & Safety.CERT IV in Health Care.CERT IV Training & Assessment.CERT III in Emergency Response and Rescue.Certified Auditor certification.Valid C Western Australian Drivers Licence.Senior First Aid Certificate.Accommodation You will be accommodated in a well-appointed mine village with a fully equipped gym, WIFI with streaming capacity, and full Telstra coverage.
