Workshop Manager

The Workshop Manager is responsible for the management of workshop staff and ensuring all matters relating to mechanical services are achieved.
This position ensures the fleet assets and the designated workshop area are maintained in accordance with legislative requirements and company standards.
This is a hands-on role with some limited time required on the tools.
Key accountabilities Supervise, plan and coordinate fleet servicing and maintenance activities, including managing and allocating project resources to ensure agreed time, cost, quality, safety and environmental targets are met.Control the Workshop Management System by scheduling and recording the allocation of jobs, considering timely, cost-effective repairs and workshop expenditure.Provide advice, direction, and regular feedback on workshop performance to motivate a team of mechanical tradespersons and apprentices in the delivery of mechanical services.Conduct on the job tutorials and assist with solving complex mechanical and hydraulic problems to provide mechanical training and instruction to workshop personnel, including apprentices.
Note this is an advisory role not a hands-on mechanical role.Facilitate the efficient delivery of mechanical services and breakdown repairs across the group.Provide recommendations on resources, productivity, work methods and associated costs, and prepare estimates for major mechanical repairs/projects.Supervise and manage parts inventory to ensure all necessary parts are held in stock.
This includes ordering from suppliers and maintaining a good working relationship with those suppliers.Assist the workshop staff in identifying the correct parts needed for repairs or servicing.Conduct the continual monitoring of equipment condition, including workshop tools and equipment, then provide the Head of Operations with a report and recommendations.Maintain parts inventory records in the Workshop Management System.Monitor phone when on call and manage or facilitate breakdown requirements.Adhere to current company policies and procedures.Maintain a safe working environment and follow best safe operational practices.Minimum Requirements: Trade qualifications in a field related to equipment repairs and possess a licence as a Motor Mechanic.Experience in scheduling repair, maintenance and servicing of heavy equipment, trucks and marine.Demonstrated ability to interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings, workshop manuals, hydraulic and electrical system diagrams.Demonstrated ability to implement and monitor WHS, quality and environment requirements in relation to the Workshop operations and to facilitate training.Possess a current motor vehicle driver licence.How do your skills match this job?Sign in and update your profile to get insights.
