Youth Off The Streets is a not-for-profit youth organisation that provides safety, support and opportunities for young people to build a positive future.
We offer crisis accommodation and housing services, alternative high school education, alcohol and other drugs counselling, youth justice support, life skills and employment programs, cultural support and community engagement, among other services.
We focus on early interventions that empower young people and strengthen communities.
Not all children and young people thrive in mainstream schools.
Our registered and accredited independent high schools offer a flexible alternative for students in Years 9–12.
We operate six independent high schools that are registered and accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
Youth Off The Streets is also a member of the Association of Independent Schools of NSW (AISNSW).
The Bowen College was opened in February 2018 and provides education for young people who are either disengaged or at risk of becoming disengaged from mainstream education.
The Bowen College is a special assistance independent school based in Maroubra.
The College operates as a registered Non-Government School and is a member of the Association of Independent Schools, NSW.
The school's learning programs comply with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and Australian Curriculum mandatory course requirements for Year 9-10 of schooling, with a strong emphasis on providing meaningful and engaging learning.
Students work towards being eligible for their RoSA, then to progress to Year 11, re-enter into mainstream and/or transition into vocational training or employment.
Our school programs aim to empower young people with learning strategies to make informed decisions towards creating a positive future.
About the role:
YOTS is looking for a secondary or primary trained Teacher in PDHPE, History or Geography on a Permanent Part Time basis 4 days per week to join our team at our school in Maroubra .
Experience, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work with young people who have been marginalised in previous schools.
An understanding of the principles that underpin a child safe organisation including mandatory child protection procedures.
Demonstrated capacity to respect and work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
Additional experience in outdoor recreation, performing arts, creative arts, sport, fitness or other extra curricula activities are desirable qualities.
Requirements:
The person we seek will ideally have the following:
An accredited four year undergraduate teaching degree.
Appropriate degrees include a Bachelor of Education (Secondary), or a combined or double degree such as a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Education (Secondary); or A bachelor degree (such as a Bachelor of Arts or Science) coupled with an accredited graduate entry teaching degree such as a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or Master of Teaching (Secondary); and Current registration with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
